Go Guerilla-Style..

Creating a video may seem like a daunting task involving green rooms, lengthy scripts and half a dozen props – but here’s the good news, it really doesn’t need to be!   More and more people are responding to guerilla-style videos – shot on the go, in the moment and which are genuine, current and real.  So just grab your smartphone, talk openly and honestly direct to your staff, and upload! Simple!

Show don’t tell…

Got a complicated process to teach, for example creating a pivot table in excel?  Show don’t tell with a screengrab recording!  You can record your desktop as you carry out the task, with a voice-over at the same time explaining each step.  It’s a much quicker (and more effective) way to explain a tricky process than taking lots of screen-shots and adding text for each one.

Video

  • Smartphone – It’s fast, easy and free.  It also encourages you to be more relaxed and helps make it really engaging.
  • Quicktime – If you’ve got a MAC computer, this great tool is already installed and you can do a ‘Movie Recording’ right at your own desk.
  • Windows Movie Maker – If you have a Windows computer, you may already have this installed, if not just click here  to download it for free!

Screen-Recording

  • Quicktime – Again, if you have a MAC computer you should already have Quicktime and it’s brilliant “Screen-Recording” tool
  • Screencast-o-matic – This will get the job done too if you don’t have a MAC (or even if you do), and offers a free version, or an upgraded version for just $15 per year.  Check it out here
  • Snagit – This tool is also really easy to use for creating a screen recording.  They currently offer a free 15 day trial, or you can pay a $49.95 one-off fee to own it.  Click here to learn more.
